Interviewer: Did you know by pre-registering for the General Conference that you were entered in a drawing for a free seven-day Caribbean cruise?
Karen: No! I just registered to make sure I had a seat at the conference! I am a traveling nurse and my assignment ended September 4th so I didn’t take another assignment because I wanted to make sure I would be able to go to conference. I’m glad I did because I had such a wonderful time.
I: Was this your first general conference?
K: No, I was at the general conference in Houston in 1971.
I: Were you excited that the conference was in Houston again?
K: Yes. It was especially meaningful to me this year because I was raised in Houston. The display that Bro Gurley and the South Texas District put together on the revival in Houston was such a blessing to see.
I: Tell us what happened the day you won.
K: Sunday morning I had packed and went down to breakfast and a pastor’s wife from Florida saw me and told me I had won the cruise. I told her that she must have gotten the name wrong. She said that she hadn’t and that they announced it in the Exhibit that I had won the cruise.
I: How did you feel when she told you had won?
K: Disbelief. We immediately went back to the Exhibit Hall to see if I had really won the cruise. After asking around, it was confirmed that I had won the cruise.
I: So after it was confirmed were you excited?
K: No…I thought I’m going to wait till I have the papers in my hand!
I: Have you ever been on a cruise?
K: No, but I have absolutely wanted to go on one.
I: Have you decided who you are going to take with you?
K: Yes, My Husband…If I can get him to go with me
I: What are you looking forward to most about the cruise?
K: I love to travel and this will be a part of the world that I have never seen before. I look forward to seeing what other beauty that God has created.
